Crystal Palace want to spunk 25 million on Carroll and Liverpool want rid of Benteke.
Would it be good business to pull the trigger on these deals?
Benteke's mobility might be the key.

I would sell Carroll for less IF we could get it. Collins and Reid among others hoof it to Carroll every time he plays, then we give the ball back to the opposition. He is only good as an impact sub in my opinion, good in the air but crap on the floor, but he won't be happy benched.
Benteke is a big target man again who can't get in their team as he can't score same as Carroll when he was there. We already got stitched up by the Scousers with Carroll and now you want to go back for more punishment for their crap cast offs. Sakho is better than both and we need another similar to him but with half a brain.

My take on the big name strikers is that none of them wanted to come to West Ham. Sweet and simple. As a team we are still in the early stages of building and so we have to be patient and eventually they will come, just not now.
I'd swap Carroll for Benteke all day long because too many times Carroll is not getting the service he needs and he lacks agility to get stuck into a game when in that situation. But I wouldn't be against getting Benteke AND keeping Carroll. He would be a nice luxury to have on the bench.

Flawless plan...
I can really see some club willing to pay £20m plus for an injury prone cart horse which will give us enough money to sign Benteke for closer to £30m
I was a bit worried that the only way Carroll would leave is if we accepted next to fuck all, probably pay a slice of his wages until his deal expires, and then find a club desperate enough to ignore his inevitable failed medical...but thinking about it, I reckon you're onto something here.

Benteke's been rubbish since he left Villa.
Unless it's been scientifically proven that he is incredibly good when he wears claret and blue, but shit otherwise, I'd steer clear.

I don't know who's best to get in, but I like your turn of phrase and would love to, as you say, have Carrol as a luxury item to bring on from the bench, as and when.
That would be great, as opposed to where we are right now, which is to have only him, as far as someone who has PL experience and is pulling in the same direction as the club.
He's an upgrade on Carlton, but it feels the same as when Cole was so often our only choice, when you would rather have him as 4th or at best 3rd choice.
Kepp Carrol and hope that Calleri pushes him to 2nd choice, and ideally surprise us with someone who takes the no.1 spot over both of them.

Carroll was winning headers yesterday but there was nobody running past him for the flick down. Play to his strengths and he is a very capable player but he cannot play up front on his own.

Keep Carroll and buy but not Benteke. Which to be fair is what we have tried to do.
Benteke is overpriced if Liverpool are desperate to get rid we might get him on loan with an option to buy.
I think we are holding back until after the Astra games. If we get through we will definitely bring in more. If not we will go with what we have got.

Carroll was keeping three defenders busy at times.
Yet we didn't know how to exploit our resulting 9 vs 7 outfield players advantage in the rest of the pitch.
Not too much of a worry yet, but we need to gel with the newcomers PDQ and use the extra space Carroll creates for the team.
Another good season awaits if we can do this. Evan if AC doesn't score that many himself.

I don't disagree with what you are saying geep but there is one worrying fact. Playing Carroll as the lone man up front pushes our play more towards Fat Sam's style and away from how Bilic had us playing last season. Benteke would give us most of the things Carroll offers us plus his ability to move with the ball at his feet.
